What to serve with roast lamb?

Planning on doing a leg of lamb tomorrow and looking for something to go with it.

So roast potatoes & parsnips and green veg but I was thinking about something creamy. I do cauliflower cheese at christmas but don't feel like that particularly goes?

Dauphinois potatoes as well as roasties?

ToffeeNotCoffee · 22/01/2022 14:32

Cauliflower and broccoli cheese ?

Broad beans in white sauce ?

Potato gratin ?

A gratin of other veg e.g. celeriac and onion.

Pearl onions in white sauce or cheese sauce ?

Please remember the mint sauce when serving lamb.

Leeks are lovely with lamb. You could do leeks in double cream and herbs. Then either bake or not.

Leeks sound good.

Tbh I'd happily just do a dauphinois but I know there'd be an outcry if I didn't do roasties. I will buy some mint sauce too as it's not something we'd normally have.

Onion sauce is traditional with lamb. Sweat onion and little tiny bit of garlic in butter very gently until it collapses in golden, sweet onionyness; then add some flour and cook it out, then whole milk, or milk and cream, bit of rosemary, white pepper, salt.

I'd do tzaziki and a Greek salad

Onions in white sauce would be sublime

Cheesy leeks!

Yes definitely leeks in white sauce - we always have this with lamb and beef. I was going to suggest butter beans done in a white sauce, I did a Nigel Slater recipe but to be honest it was a bit bland.

Macaroni cheese
Cauliflower cheese
Dauphinois potatoes

Out of the 3 I never have any leftover macaroni cheese. I know it's not a traditional Sunday dish but with the veg it's lovely

Have you tried Tom Kerridge's lamb boulangerie? It's a lovely way to slow cook a leg with potatoes. I often prep this, put it in the oven and go out for a Sunday walk. When I get back the house smells lovely!

Yes I was going to say potatoes boulangère! Classic accompaniment and so delicious.

@NotAgain84 thank you. I used that recipe today and it was really lovely. Served it with cheesy leeks, parsnips, broccoli, carrots and green beans.

Just clicked on the above link! That’s tea tomorrow sorted. Off to take the lamb out of the freezer!
