I have got a shiny new k mix for christmas and I am very excited to try it. Can anyone suggest a recipe to do it justice

(i was thinking about pancakes but perhaps it needs something more impressive!)

I got one in the Black Friday sales and absolutely love it!!! The dough hook is fantastic. Enjoy!

Lemon and Blueberry cake

Am following this. DP got me one last year and everything I've tried to make in it is a disaster :( Cakes are especially bad.

It's great for meringue but have to sneak out my electric hand mixer for everything else so I don't hurt his feelings!!

A big fat Victoria sponge with raspberry jam now nom

Wigeon · 27/12/2021 15:40

I’ve just made bread dough in my Kenwood, bread currently in the oven.

Other things I use it for:

Bagel dough

Cinnamon bun dough

Meringues

Any cake where you have to whisk something a lot

Any regular cake where you mix the butter and sugar then add the other ingredients! So pick your favourite cake and make it in your mixer!

Enjoy!

Pavlova - they make amazing meringues and you can whip the cream in it too.

@WhatIsThisPlease - oh no, a stand mixer should be great for cakes! Are you definitely measuring everything accurately? I do both all-in-one sponges in my mixer, and cakes where you do the butter and sugar then add eggs, flour etc. Do you add all the eggs at once to the butter/sugar and then it curdles? Or what goes wrong?

Lemon drizzle cake (Tana Ramsay’s recipe) or a Vicky sponge (4 eggs, equal weight of butter, eggs, sugar).

whatsthis that is very odd. Are you using the right paddle? What recipes have you tried? Is your oven not holding temperature?

@NightOwl19 thanks for the encouragement for the dough hook. Had fun making this today

Ooh any chance of a cinnamon bun dough recipe?

Might encourage me get my aged Kenwood Chef out of the cupboard!

I confess to finding my stand mixer (K mix) underwhelming as the paddle simply doesn't reach the edges so I keep having to stop it and bring things in from the side.
The only time I do use it is where something needs a lot of beating - so meringues or whipped cream - or where I am making batch quantities of something (for a bake sale for example). Otherwise, I just get my £3 in Tesco 12 years ago hand mixer out.

@Wigeon and @Chewbecca

Definitely not the oven, I can make perfect cakes if is use my little hand mixer.

I've tried every which way - creaming butter and sugar first, adding eggs one at a time, folding in the flour by hand, tried softened butter, stork margarine, used the k paddle, the whisk, tried putting it all in together like my mum used to with her Kenwood, tried all sorts and it just gives me lumpy, runny batter and cakes that don't rise.

I only use it now to make meringue and even then only if it's a four egg recipe. Tried it with two eggs last week and it only whisked the eggs on the edge. The bit in the middle remains untouched. I'm so sad about it!!

WhatIsThisPlease · 27/12/2021 17:35

@Heathofhares - that looks amazing!!

Chewbecca · 27/12/2021 17:55

Bread looks fabulous!

whatis so it does sound like the mixer then? Mine is a kitchenaid tbh.

Heathofhares · 27/12/2021 18:06

I experimented with egg white this morning for pancakes and two egg whites whipped up no bother at all?

So far I’m converted from my hand whisk

I don't know if it's the same for the kmix, but on my kenwood chef you can adjust the attachments (whisk, paddle etc) so that they touch the bottom and sides of the bowl better, there is a spanner that comes with the mixer for this purpose.

Yes this is mentioned in the manual that came with the k mix.
