I have never cooked a whole salmon before, any tips tricks recipes. Feeling very nervous that I'll get it wrong and it will go to waste.

Wrap in foil and steam in the top shelf of the dishwasher

If you fillet the salmon carefully spread some cream cheese or lightly salted butter on the base so it soaks in the flavour and it’s divine!

Don’t do the dishwasher thing! Seal it in foil so it is airtight, put on hot baking tray at 200C and bake until foil expands with hot air (the steam from the fish). Depending on size should be 25 mins but keep checking without opening foil. When you think it’s ready open and push near the shoulder with a finger. If flakes start to move it’s ready. Or cut into the thickest but and have a look, but it’s actually harder to tell that way. Good luck!

Dishwasher Shock
I would follow instructions on packaging if there are any, and post on mumsnet for advice....I would have no clue with a whole one but for fillets I lightly oil foil, put into parcels, and put in the oven.

My granny used to bring it to the boil in a court bouillon, turn it off and leave overnight. Doesn’t sound right but it worked every time. Served cold with thin slices of cucumber
