Best meal box delivery

I'm bored of what we eat, trying to come up with interesting ideas that are quick after a day of work. I want to try a meal delivery box - Hello Fresh, etc. Which ones have people tried and recommend? We are a mostly non-meat eating family, with a vegetarian teen. We eat fish but mostly vegetarian meals. Which should I try first?

I've tried them all and like Gousto best. It has a huge range of recipes and we've not had many problems with missing items etc in the 2 years we've used them. We found Hello Fresh too samey with a lot of meals served with wedges etc and the mindful chef was delicious but too expensive for weekly use. I used Yes Chef a few times but their range was quite limited. I have 2 teenagers and they enjoy cooking the Gousto recipes too which is great.

This is my referral code, you get 60% off and I get a £15 voucher if you use it.

There is is, sorry!

I've only tried Hello Fresh. I stopped because it's quite expensive outside of the offers but I was really impressed by their vegetarian meals. The portion sizes were also more generous than I was expecting.

Gousto is the best at the moment, it has the widest choice if you mainly eat veggie meals. We’ve recently tried Green Chef (which looks like it’s owned by Helio Fresh) and it was ok but not the premium brand it advertises itself as.

whoami24601 · 19/12/2021 09:50

Another vote for gousto here. We've only had one meal that we weren't keen on but that could have been my cooking! Good range and the portion sizes are huge - I usually take leftovers for lunch at least twice! We order a box for 4 that does 2 adults and 3 kids (9,6 and 3) with plenty left over.

geogteach · 19/12/2021 09:54

We like Riverford . Lots of veggie options. Not cheap but generous, their 2 portion meals feed 3 Adults including a ravenous teen here.

We have tried Hello Fresh, Green Chef and Gousto. Gousto is our favorite and at the moment you can get a whopping 65% off your first box -that means 4 meals a week for 2 people is just £12.25 which is an amazing price to try it. you can pause or cancel any time but they do give more discount on another 2 boxes in your first month.

Definitely not HelloFresh! Wrong items inappropriate substitutions, items missing, deliveries not turning up they’ve been a nightmare. And the recipes aren’t that exciting and very carb heavy v young family orientated

Gousto is much better (but more expensive)

Fastforwardtospring · 08/01/2022 22:01

Another vote for Gousto, wouldn’t necessarily say the prep is quick on some meals, they do some specific prep in 10 mins recipes, sometimes it’s a bit of a bind if you are short on time and you have to prepare a new recipe, however we dip in and out and generally are pleased with food we eat, it’s turned my DC into more adventurous eaters.

km980 · 08/01/2022 22:03

This referral link gets 65% off your first Gousto box so 4 delicious and highly recommended meals for 2 cost only £12.25! You can pause boxes or cancel anytime :)

100% Mindful Chef. I’ve been using them for three years now. They use a lot more wholemeal and whole grains, eg black and brown rice, sweet potato, whole grain pasta. The focus is on the protein and veg. I love their meals and rarely ever have a missing item, issue or substitution.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 08/01/2022 22:07

Oh and I also have a referral if you’d like to try it!

Fleurty · 08/01/2022 22:10

I really rated Gousto until 3 weeks in a row they failed to deliver my box, and as it was due on a sunday they didn't tell me it wasn't coming until after 4pm so I couldn't do a food shop for the week instead.

Not only that, but their customer services team didn't care about the inconvenience. I had credit rolling over from missing ingredients in my previous box and they told me I had to order another box to claim that credit back (money I'd already paid out for goods I never recieved). They didn't even apologise.

Thanks for all of the comments here. I'm only just getting round to it now. @edmundtrebus, hope it's still ok if I use your promo code

I think they both have good introductory offers so why not try ordering from both and see which suits your family better? For what it's worth, though I don't subscribe I often use Gousto for recipe inspiration and I like a lot of their recipes, though I have noticed an increased amount of fake meat products, which I'm not really into for everyday eating. You can go onto Gousto's website and see what the options are without needing an account so you can see if their recipes appeal. Not sure about Hello Fresh.

cartooncarrie · 16/01/2022 09:16

Hi

Simply cook is brilliant. They don't send fresh ingredients but 3 flavour pots with recipe card

You usually just add meat/veg/rice etc and most meals ready in 20 mins with minimal prep. The Asian dishes are the best IMO very authentic flavours

Please try it for free with my referral code

I tried Gousto this January. There was alot that I liked about it (portion size, tasty, kid friendly, easy to follow recipes, well packaged, reasonable price, minimum order of 2 days per week). But our family is committed to only eating free range chicken - and they don't offer that. I'm going to start a thread to see if I can find a meal box company that offers that.

Second riverford. Good veggie options and interesting tasty meals.
