Smoked salmon starter

For Christmas dinner I’d like to do a smoked salmon starter. Something simple that I can throw together while we are just waiting for the dinner to finish cooking.

What’s your favourite recipe?

We are just having good salmon, thinly sliced cucumber and buttered brown soda bread - all done at the last minute and needs minimal fridge space

Smoked salmon is so festive!

I love a very simple starter of sliced smoked salmon, with cream cheese spread on top of sliced soda bread / toasted sourdough. If you slightly soften the cream cheese and mix with a couple of tablespoons of dill and some fresh lemon juice, it really elevates it. You could serve this plated individually (with a quenelle of cream cheese and slice of lemon per person) or serve all the ingredients on a platter for everyone to serve themselves, taking as much as they wish.

You can jazz these up by adding some very thinly sliced red onions, capers and chives, but these flavours may be a bit too complex to precede a rich Christmas main meal.

Thanks to both 😊
Soda bread sounds great. I’ve not had that for ages … and shouldn’t take long to prepare.
I was thinking of cream cheese but wondered how to make it a bit more exciting so thanks for that TheBermudaTriangle
