Hi there, i’ve just come downstairs 11:30 to have breakfast/ brunch and i saw the fridge door was not completely closed (but not wide open). It must’ve been left like that from around 8am when my mum left for work. I have had some cereal with the milk as it still felt cold but although it was cold it wasn’t ice cold like it usually was when i drank it. Will it be okay or should i bin it??

If it tastes and smells OK, it will be fine if it is still cool/ cold.

Hoppinggreen · 10/12/2021 11:47

It’s fine

Nevertime · 10/12/2021 11:50

Of course it's OK and if it wasn't a sniff would tell you .

is it obvious if it smells bad? just smelled it and it smells like milk and plastic (i assume because it’s a plastic container)?

Yes, if you've got a sense of smell you'll know if it's gone off.

If it has turned sour you will know. If it smells and tastes ok, then it is.

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/12/2021 13:39

Off milk smells rancid. You'd know.

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/12/2021 13:41

Also, we didn't had a fridge at my old job, we just bought a 1 pint bottle every day & it got used that day - it was fine.
It doesn't go off that quickly unless you live in a tropical climate Grin

If it tastes OK in coffee and tea it's fine. If it tastes off it is off but won't actually do you any harm. If bits float in your drink it's really off, but still harmless. Have you really never tasted or smelt off milk?

bigbluebus · 10/12/2021 14:00

Unless it's 30°c where you are it'll be fine! Milk doesn't go off that quickly. We had no electricity for 3 days last week. Although we threw out cooked meats and pate we didn't throw the milk out - we just used it. It may not keep as long as it normally would but it'll be absolutely fine today. And yes you can smell when it's gone off or it will have floaters in it.
