I want to try making my son's 3rd Birthday cake next week. Haven't made a cake for years and i want to attempt ready to roll fondant decoration in a theme he likes. I'm going to need all the help I can get. I've found a recipe to make a cake which is supposed to be ideal for fondant icing whereismyspoon.co/my-best-base-for-fondant-cakes/
So my question is, do I want a spring form tin or a loose bottom? Or something else. I am making it lactose free so will just swap out the butter for vegan version, should be a straight swap AFAIK?
So will I need to slice the cake in half then stick jam and buttercream inside? And do I coat in a thin layer of buttercream before the fondant goes on? And is there any other special equipment I need apart from a tin. TIA!
