What shall I serve?

I'm hosting a group of 10 in my home in a couple of weeks. All know each other, but not very well. Can you help me with menu ideas? Id really like things I can say prep ahead so this limited work to do when they arrive. No special dietary requirements.

I already have planned pulled pork (done in slow cooker) and some sticky mini sausages. Can serve with crusty bread and coleslaw. It doesn't feel enough. All suggestions gratefully received!

Baked sweet potatoes
Sour cream
sweetcorn salad
Dirty rice

Coffeeonmytoffee · 30/11/2021 05:48

Red cabbage and apple

Thanks both, I like these ideas. I was going to do some kind of charcuterie board but given my guests don't know each other that well, I thought they might not like sharing

I agree charcuterie not good in covid times

Your choices sound good but personally I would go for soft white rolls with the pork.

Apple sauce!

RedHot22 · 30/11/2021 07:51

You’ve got double pork going on though.

Side of salmon?

Rainbowqueeen · 30/11/2021 07:54

Definitely buns not bread.
Corn on the cob.
Dessert of some kind - something you can make ahead eg Eton mess, a cake, fruit crumble

Restlessinthenorth · 30/11/2021 08:05

Corn on the cob is a great idea...will take the advice and switch to rolls too

Sausage rolls
Charcuterie
Fruit and cheese platter
Cake
Baked potatoes and ham
Wine

Charcuterie board can also get very expensive and doesn't go far! Then there's also the touching which is a bit gross at the moment.

A tear and share garlic bread or two?

To stick with the theme, I think baked potato skills filled with sour cream and chives would be lovely.

Restlessinthenorth · 30/11/2021 09:56

I think potato skins are a brilliant idea! Why didn't I think of that?!

Also...there will be wine a plenty 🍷. That was never in dispute ☺️

Yes you need corn on the cob and soft rolls. And two pork dishes is overkill I think.

But I would rethink doing pulled pork anyway, having it on rolls with corn on the cob is a bit messy eating, more summer BBQ than holiday dinner with people not knowing each other well.

I'd do a beef bourguignon or similar stew that cooks for hours.

It’s pricey but a whole sirloin, carved and served with nice rolls is a lovely casual sharing dish.
