Thinking of trying to make a fruit cake for the first time ever. Hopefully nothing too labour intensive. Was hoping for some lovely foolproof recommendations Thanks

Not labour intensive at all. Most time is in the cooking.

My recipes are Maura Laverty or Darina Allen.

I haven't got a specific recipe but my mum used to make the best fruitcake ever. She used the boiling method. Dissolve sugar, butter and raisins in pan, then bring to the boil. Take off heat and allow to cool completely. Mix in flour and eggs, put in greased tin etc. Bake for approximately an hour and a half. My mum also took to adding mashed overripe bananas (at the flour and egg stage) which gave a slightly alcoholic flavour to the cake.
Happy baking!

Booked fruit cake is by far the best fruit cake. The recipe I use is on the bbc good food, it's nan's fruit cake. It's the bomb.
