Recipe for a cake that is vegan, and doesn't contain chocolate, nuts or wheat please

I offered to make a cake for a gathering, knowing there were a few food requirements which I thought I could handle but has now been complicated by an additional guest. I think I may end up making two to satisfy all the needs but one would be ideal. If you have a cake recipe that is vegan, and doesn't contain chocolate, wheat or nuts I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks

lemon polenta cake? think Nigella does one & its gorgeous !

The BBC good food vegan banana bread is easy and foolproof.

I was thinking of something along the same lines which is orange flavoured and made with ground rice/rice flour. You might need an egg substitute but it's actually a really great cake everyone will like. Have a look online, you'll find something suitable.

Thank you - do you know if it will work well with gluten free flour (the allergy is wheat but gluten free is ok apparently). Always a bit nervous neither cakes and GF flour as I believe they don't always work that well.

I might be better starting with a GF recipe and then using egg substitutes?

Not sure where the 'neither' came from - autocorrect!

Honestly I would do two cakes. With those requirements there are just too many compromises to make something that everyone will actually enjoy without many trial attempts to optimise it.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 15/11/2021 18:49

@toastofthetown yes I had come to the same conclusion but thought it worth asking!
It doesn't matter what social situation I am cooking for, we always seem to end up with the most difficult combination of dietary requirements, none coming from my immediate family!
But I know some of our friends feel embarrassed when people have to go to extra trouble to cater for their needs, which is why I was hoping I could find THE recipe!

Not sure if this qualifies as 'cake,' but would this work?

I think there is such a thing as egg replacer you can buy in supermarkets that is veggie? or you can substitute egg with bananas....

There's this red velvet cake but it contains cocoa powder (but not chocolate). I've not tried it personally i've tried lots of her other recipes and they are usually fine.

There's also this vegan carrot cake recipe from the BBC

Because of the carrot it should be a fairly easy swap for gluten free flour.

Serenschintte · 15/11/2021 21:26

Doves Farm self raising flour works just like the gluten flours
Try that maybe

helplesshopeless · 15/11/2021 22:00

Do you mean gluten free when you say wheat free? Or actually wheat free?

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 15/11/2021 22:01

Thank you all. I think the trick will be to make a vegan cake with gluten free flour. Carrot cake would be perfect, will just leave out the nuts.
Thanks all

Look up glutenfree cuppa tea blog.
Cakes are all GF and tell you how to make dairy or nut free or vegan.
