Grain-free gravy

I used to LOVE a jug full of Bisto gravy on my roast meat. Now I am allergic to all grains I am at a loss as to how to recreate that thick, gooey, delicious gravy without using flour or cornflour.

I could not find a cookery board on MN so am posting here hoping that some clever low-carber can help me.

Cheers.

Would potato flour be any good? Not low carb though.

Last time I had chicken, I just poured the meat juices over it. Yum!

I don’t know if arrowroot would work. 🤔

nocoolnamesleft · 14/11/2021 00:55

I've never used it, but I gather arrowroot can be used as a grain free thickener?

DartmoorChef · 14/11/2021 01:02

Cornflour is gluten free, would that be OK?

DartmoorChef · 14/11/2021 01:03

Ah sorry just looked back and see you've said no cornflour. I used arrowroot when I was cooking keto meals and that worked fine.

Food board.
Sorry I'm no help but people on there might have ideas?

Thanks everyone. I will investigate if arrowroot is a grain, and thanks for showing me where the food board is!

The bisto ‘best’ gravy I believe is gluten free - please check first though as I may be wrong! I’m pretty sure it is though!

How about xanthan gum?

TreborBore · 14/11/2021 23:46

You need potato starch. I promise I don’t work for them, but these granules are really easy to use, don’t make lumps and are available from all major supermarkets

We're moving this thread over to our Food & Recipes topic for the OP. Thanks to everyone who's responded so far. Smile

I use potato starch. If you're near an Oriental store, it's cheap & cheerful.

thanks
