Can I save this undercooked cake?!

So I merrily went to bake a chocolate cake, but it’s just not cooking through. The top has cracks so I’m guessing the oven was too hot. Is there anything I can do to save this cake?!

Ingredients
Chocolate Sponge

300g plain flour
300g caster sugar
113g cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1 ½ tsp bicarbonate soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp coffee powder
473ml butter milk
125 ml coconut oil or sunflower oil
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla essence
284 ml hot water

I’d try turning the heat down - maybe to a little below what it should have been - and baking it for longer.

Call it chocolate pudding, dollop it into bowls & add ice cream?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 12/11/2021 21:19

Custard

elaeocarpus · 12/11/2021 21:22

Seems a very wet/liquid recipe, what is it called/meant to be?

EnidFrighten · 12/11/2021 21:32

Just cook it for longer. If it dries out then tin foil over the top will stop it burning while the middle cooks.

If it's a weird stodge fest that might not be cooked, have it microwaved with a bit of ice cream or custard and call it a pudding Grin

It was a recipe for Chocolate Traybake School style.

Yes, it was a very wet mix.

Sounds like an awful lot of liquid

Cocopopsss · 12/11/2021 22:33

Yes i did think that there was too much liquid going in.

Is it even safe to eat undercooked cake?!

Cut into slices or chunks, microwave a couple of tester pieces, if edible add cream or ice-cream or custard. Enjoy! Cake Cake

catfunk · 12/11/2021 22:56

Did you cook it in a tray or a regular cake tin?

00100001 · 12/11/2021 23:02

Just cover it with foil and carry on

Squashpocket · 13/11/2021 07:18

That's a crazy amount of liquid. Why the hot water and the buttermilk? Weird.

Cocopopsss · 13/11/2021 09:00

Yes I did think it was a lot of liquid but still put it all in 😂
I dried it out for longer in the oven, will have it tonight warmed up in the microwave .

Safe??? Have you never scraped out the cake mix bowl before dc can get their mitts on it? Best part of baking Grin

But yes, eat it as a dessert. If you microwave to warm up it'll cook it a bit long
