Dessert suggestions please!

Doing roast pork (Italian style) for lunch with friends on Sunday. I have a shortcrust pastry case in the freezer which I may as well use. Have an epic cheeseboard planned for after so don't want anything too heavy. Ideally something I can prep tomorrow.

What would you go for???

I would go for something light, like a sorbet, particularly as you have a cheeseboard to follow.

If you have cheese I'd go light and wouldn't have pastry after a roast and before crackers.

Roast figs in Marsala wine ?
Fruit ?
Agree sorbet is a good shout.

Lemon meringue pie, or chocolate tart. (Although you would have to cook the meringue straight away I guess.....I have never made either but they are what I'd want to eat before cheese......I'd also be secretly hoping other guests get too full to partake in the cheese....)

I would say tarte au citron if you want to use up your shortcrust pastry case. Lemon is light and refreshing, and counters the richness/fattiness of the pork and cheese.

Thanks all! Light and lemony sounds like the consensus Smile

I know you said you want to prep tomorrow, but this recipe for apple snow is light, seasonal and doesn’t have too much dairy.

Emptypastrycase · 12/11/2021 17:39

Ooooh I like the sound of that too thanks @WhatonEarth1
