I’ve read about the positive effects of drinking Kefir and have been wondering about making my own, but have no idea where to start. Can anyone help?

A friend gave me some grains. They live in my fridge & get fed milk occasionally. I use it for waffles, scones & a really fab chocolate cake by @scandicook on IG. Was feeling ill this week, so whizzed it up as a smoothie with protein powder. 😁

Yes I do sometimes. You can start off with the powder it's alot easier than the grains.

Where did you buy the powder from? There seem to be so many sources that I don’t know where to start.

There's a great Facebook group called UK fermenting friends. If you join that there's a pinned post where you can request grains either milk ones or water (usually for the postage price). There are guides on how to make it and the people on there are really helpful about how to start making kefir and loads of other fermented foods and drinks.

I've made it a few times by adding milk to an almost empty bottle of shop bought.

I did try the grains but you have to sieve them, and I find that makes it too runny. It's also a bit sour for me.

I got my powder off Amazon. Cultures for health is the brand name. The powder is similar to making yoghurt but without the hassles of heating it. I have been successful with grains but it was much harder work so I've gone back to the powder.i add sour cream at the same time as the powder to make it thicker.

Thank you everyone, I’ll check out the Facebook group and start there.
