Your favourite recipes using star anise

I bought star anise for a plum sauce to go with duck - gorgeous! Now have a lot of star anise to use up.

What are your favourite recipes for star anise? DH doesn't like an overly strong aniseed flavour so recipes which are enhanced by it rather than 'in your face'.

Yes, I know I could Google but prefer tried and tested if possible.

Chicken noodle soup- garlic, shallots, star anise, cinnamon, chilli and ginger gently sweated off together. Add in one of those chicken stock pot things and water plus left left over roast chicken if you've got any. Simmer gently and then chuck in some ready to wok noodles. Tis lush.

Hugh FW has a beef, shallots and tomato stew in his 3 good things book that has a star anise in it. It adds a subtle flavour.

FIL does carrots in butter and star anise at Christmas. It is absolutely amazing. I don’t have the recipe but I’m sure Google would help out if it’s up your street.

My friend suggested that but at Christmas with all the flavours going on I tend to opt die fairly plain veg. Might try that with a lore simple roast though, sounds lovely.
