Any topping suggestions please for cod?

I normally do a breadcrumbs and tartare sauce topping (an old Waitrose recipe idea I think) but I have no tartare sauce.

Any other ideas please?
TIA

Red pesto and mozzarella

Finely chopped tomatoes, peppers and onions

Chorizo, cheese and breadcrumbs

Miso marinated cod is good

Thank you skunkbutrug (I’m guessing there’s a story behind that name choice Grin)

Might I mix the finely chopped peppers, tomatoes and onions with some breadcrumbs do you think? To give it some crunch.

You could try this one from Rachel Roddy's Kitchen in Rome column:

www.theguardian.com/food/2021/oct/11/rachel-roddy-recipe-cod-tomatoes-capers

Although if you have capers, you could have a go at making your own tartare sauce.

Cheese sauce with breadcrumb topping

Name is a Zootropolis reference.

I think breadcrumbs would be a good addition to the chopped veg 👍

This was a recommendation from MN years ago that I enjoy

Breadcrumbs mixed with mustard, parmesan, herbs and brought together with some oil.

Or get a tub of fresh pesto, mix in breadcrumbs and put on top of the cod.

Mango chutney! I actually tend to bake the cod fillets in the oven until almost done, remove add thick layer of chutney then put under the grill for a few mins until chutney starts to caramelise. Tip! Line grill pan with foil for the drips! It’s actually even better if you marinate your cod in a mix of natural yoghurt, tandoori paste and Nigella seeds first.

I another favourite is streaky bacon until brittle, finely chop so small as possible and mix with breadcrumbs before using to top fish.

Cod with a chorizo crumb.

MamsellMarie · 20/10/2021 14:28

This isn't really a topping but I enjoyed the cod.
Baked cod Oven temp 205C

Arrange fillets on baking tray (I also used foil)
Drizzle with olive oil, followed by lemon juice, sprinkle of salt and cayenne pepper.
Bake 10-12 mins Garnish with parsley.

Thank you all very much for the ideas. DH doesn't like chorizo or bacon so that blew those ideas out.

Please don't be cross with me for having wasted your time but DH said he'd pop out and buy some tartare sauce!! Blush

And it really wasn't a waste as I shall be doing the Rachel Roddy recipe next week, I've made the finely chopped tomatoes, peppers and onions as a salad side dish, I've bookmarked the garlic recipe for another day and everyone in the family has said they'd like me to try the mango chutney version another day too (and the pesto I do anyway but with salmon Smile)

So thank you all again. I really appreciate you taking the time to post.

Cook it in a Yellow Thai curry sauce with finely chopped fennel and coconut rice. Bit of coriander to garnish. Works with any white fish too

Gonnagetgoing · 22/10/2021 16:29

Cheese or white sauce.

Tomato sauce with anything extra you like - e.g. olives, anchovies etc.

Gonnagetgoing · 22/10/2021 16:29

Parsley white sauce nice too
