Can anybody advise re chutneys?

I've just made two chutneys, with a view to giving them as. Christmas gifts. But I clearly didn't read the recipes properly!

Yesterday I made tomato chutney using this recipe . It says it will keep for 6 weeks. But given the amount of sugar in it, if I keep it in the fridge, surely it should be viable for longer than that?

Today I made spiced plum chutney . It says to seal the jars and leave for 6 weeks, which is fine. But there wasn't enough left to totally fill the last jar, so there is an air space between the top of the chutney and the lid. Will it be OK? Or should I look to use this one sooner than the rest?

I always use the half full one way earlier and keep that one in fridge.

Once open, keep chutney in the fridge and it will be fine forever. Before it's open, it can be kept for a year or more. Two year old chutney is totally fine, but the flavour can change a little bit. A bit of air at the top is fine as long as the lids are on properly and the jar has popped.

Thanks both. I sterilised the jars properly and put the lids on (tight) as soon as they were filled, so hopefully that's OK. And I'll be using the less-well-filled one myself!

Did the button pop? If so should be fine.

There weren't any buttons to pop, unfortunately! I'm just hoping that putting the lids on when the chutneys were hot would have created a vacuum of sorts.

There's only one way to find out though!
