Love making bread, hate kneading. Any suggestions on what I can buy to do the kneading for me?

We love our Kenwood Chef. My first one lasted 25 years, and the current one is 15 years old and still going strong. Makes 3kg dough most weeks.

I use a breadmaker. I have arthritis and can't knead.
Ive tried dough hooks on mixers but they aren't strong enough. I don't much like breadmaker loaves but I use mine to make the dough and prove it, then tip out and shape myself.

I have a second hand Kenwood major from the 1980s which is great for kneading: it's even bigger than a chef so you can do 4 lb of dough at once (two big loaves worth). I'd really consider second hand if you don't want to spend a fortune.

I second a bread maker. I don’t find the attachments dough hooks really work. I have a cheap Russel Hobbs which is used most days

If you decide to go down the mixer route buy something robust! As others have said, the Kenwood Chef or similar has a powerful motor and can handle large quantities of flour.

I also have a (Panasonic) breadmaker, which is fine for the bread recipes in the accompanying recipe book.

Kenwood Chef.
My mum’s one is over 40years old and still going strong!

I have a Kmix, make dough at least weekly.

I think also with a dough hook set up you do have to make sure you've "seated" the hook in the dough correctly - sometimes it can almost hoist itself up onto the hook so it's just spinning barely touching the bottom - if it doesn't look like the hook has a good grip I stop it and reseat the dough.

Kenwood chef from the seventies! Still bashing out bread, cakes and whipped anything. Got it on eBay about fifteen years ago for twenty pounds. Love it.

bosch mum

Kenwood chef here too! Brilliant all-rounder

Thatswhatmamasaid · 14/10/2021 19:50

I love my Kmix too.

I have a Kenwood chef and I love it but just bought a bread maker because I'm lazy. Loaves baked in the oven are much better but I'm not a morning person so never got up early enough to make it myself. My kenwood still gets used regularly for pizza dough. I also have the grinder attachment with 3 jars for it and it gets used all the time for spice pastes and salsas.

Another vote for Kenwood Chef, can’t be beaten, DH uses it regularly to make dough, well built machines, ours is 7 years old now. No hesitation in recommending Kenwood.

I love my KitchenAid. Use it all of the time and couldn't live without it. I personally also prefer the KitchenAid design and selection of colours and accessories to the KMix

UniversalTruth · 14/10/2021 21:39

I also have a KitchenAid and it makes making bread so easy. I love it.
