Help with this squidgy chocolate pudding

I made this recipe for squidgy chocolate pear pudding this evening. It was a bit rich but really delicious.

However the pears went quite tough/ hard. Any suggestions to avoid tough pears next time gratefully received.

You did use tinned pears ?
I make it a lot and never had an issue, strange

Yes I used tinned pears....they kind of dried out and went hard during the bake
