Just traditional sponge cake... will that be OK? Should I cover it with anything? TIA.

It’ll probably go stale if left out all night , it needs to cool for an hour or so then be put in an air right container

You need to let it cool and put in airtight container or wrap with parchment paper and then cling film/foil.

are you planning on decorating it? Weirdly if you are going to cover it in fondant it actually works better if you freeze it then put the crumb coating and fondant on when frozen. It goes on better and the cake defrosts nicely.

Ah, OK - thanks! @HalfShrunkMoreToGo, decorating with buttercream, etc. (children’s b’day cake!).

It'll be fine.
That's what people have always done before fridges were common.

Just cover with a bowl or something

I leave them to cool overnight all the time. I just chuck a clean teatowel over them. None has ever gone stale or made anyone ill. Hmm

Jijithecat · 08/10/2021 21:06

I just leave it on a cooling rack and cover it with a clean tea towel.

Always do this. Pop a tea towel over and they're fine
