I picked up a couple of whole mackerels on special offer. Now I don’t know what to do with them. Any exciting suggestions?

I think mackerel is really nice marinaded in teriyaki (make a few slashes on the sides to allow it to soak in. Grill then pair with noodles and some greens, either steamed or cooked on a pan with garlic and chilli. I usualky do fillets though if your fish are not too big and you keep the grill heat gentle initially while fish could do.

A fresh one I'd grill and eat with something simple like potatoes and roast veg.

If it is smoked then I highly recommend mashing it up with cream cheese, some pepper and lemon and using it as a filling for jacket potatoes.

@Ricekrispie22 that looks amazing. I’ve saved it for later, thank you.

Riverford used to have mackerel on their shopping options but not seen it for yonks. At the beginning of lockdown one we got it a few times and I used to make this - was really good

Oh the devilled mackerel looks lovely. Will hope for the special to come back around so I can try that

You could use it in kedgeree instead of smoked haddock.
