Can anyone come up with suggestions for vegan afternoon tea bits. I am doing an afternoon tea on Saturday and just found out 2 of the guests are vegan.
Thank you

Ask them what they’d like to eat for tea

Proper cucumber sandwiches are vegan if you check the bread you use and swap butter for a vegan friendly spread.

You can make vegan scones with eg Pure and oat milk.

Plenty of vegan cake recipes online too.

It’s easy to make your own with a little help from some shop-bought products.
This Cadbury chocolate icing is vegan www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/304373381 and this cake mix is too www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/wrights-chocolate-fudge-cake-mix-500g so it’s easy to make mini cupcakes.
Jus Rol shortcrust pastry is vegan and so are most of the Bonne Maman jams, so making your own jam tarts should be a doddle.
Most bread is vegan. This is a really good dairy free cream cheese that I use for a sandwich filling with tomato or cucumber www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/dairy-free-cheese-alternatives--/nush-almond-cream-cheese-150g

From Tesco:

Bosh Luscious Lemon Cake

Just Love Vegan Chocolate & Orange Cake

Veg crudities and hummus to dip.

Violife Original Soft Cheese Dairy Alternative 200G to put in sandwiches.

Crisps.

Vegan ready to eat sliced meat to put in sandwiches.

Most bread is ok (just check the ingredients for egg or milk)

Naturli spread (from Waitrose or Sainsburys) is a really good vegan butter

For sandwich fillings I like applewood smoked vegan cheese with chutney; hummus and roast veg; or chickpea tuna (very easy - lots of recipes online)

You'll find lots of vegan cake recipes online but if you don't want to bake then check out the free from section of the supermarket - there should be lots that's vegan

I don't drink tea so no idea what milk works best but for coffee I don't think you can beat Barista oat milk.

If you're serving prosecco etc, bear in mind they aren't all vegan but this is a great resource for checking:

I'd suggest checking first, just as you would any guest. Many veggies and vegans don't eat meat or cheese substitutes for a variety of reasons. Anything Quorn based is particularly risky as many people cannot tolerate it.
Houmous and roast veggies can be a good sandwich option.

Morrisons sells vegan cupcakes.

mumwon · 07/10/2021 19:11

peanut butter or better still almond butter sandwiches with a little mustard & cress

mumwon · 07/10/2021 19:15

veg samosas (check ingredients) with spicy sauce
veg felalfels

Coronado2 · 07/10/2021 19:22

I wouldn't say many vegetarians and vegans don't eat meat and cheese substitutes, though it is obviously worth asking.

Oggs cakes are delicious. I do like a vegetable and hummus sandwich or a cucumber and mayo sandwich, all supermarkets have vegan mayo.

Tesco have nice vegan pork pies and frozen mini sausage rolls.

Vegan meringues made with aquafaba (the water from a can of chickpeas) - sounds utterly mental, but it does work!

I have just learned that Carnation do a vegan condensed milk and have a website full of recipes for vegan millionaires slices, banoffee pie, key lime pie etc. They all seem to review as “non vegans couldn’t tell the difference” and I’m sure mini versions would be lovely for an afternoon tea!
