Can I still cook for tea or do I need to fully defrost?

defrost it totally. You can do this in the microwave on low/defrost. You must make sure it's fully defrosted. If that's not possible in the time, cut it into joints and cook separately. Enjoy!!

Don't micro defrost it, it part cooks it and is gross. Whack it in the oven for a lot longer than planned as long as it comes to temp internally it'll be ok.

I'd park it in a bowl of cold tap water. Definitely not warm or hot!

I hate MW defrosting as it gets partially cooked however good the defrost setting

I realise my opinion will be unpopular

That is the method used by my DW and I, by far the safest.

That's a relief it's not just me.

I would think it depends how long you set it to defrost for and if there are any thin pieces of meat near the edges that catch more rays. I find that if I turn the plate round manually, with the subsequent increase in standing time I don't have too much of a problem with (over)cooking. It really is a question of finessing it though.
