I don't work for Lidl!!

So I got a leaflet last week though the door from Lidl. I usally don't pay much attention to supermarket recipes - usually they need a lot of new ingredients that are expensive and you probably won't use up - pomegrante molasses I'm looking at you.

There are 5 receipes and a shopping list for all the ingredients - £20 for 5 family meals. All the recipes appealed, they are fairly vege heavy, so I decided to give it a go - I'm desperate for quick easy week night meals and have been uninspired for some time.

Link to recipes but I can't see the shopping list online.

Shopping not a problem - had to make a few substitutions as I shopped late in the day.

  1. recipes.lidl.co.uk/recipes/creamy-salmon-and-super-greens-pasta
DD1 said this was the best meal ever. DD2 hated it and heated herself tomato soup. I really liked it plus it was very quick. And I hate cooking fish but enjoyed using the precooked flaked salmon, so it encourages me to get a fish meal in.

Revelation - frozen green beans are delicious and we all like them. Usually I buy fresh and they end up in the compost. I will be buying frozen beans moving forward.
6/10 as only 2 of us like it. DD1 took leftovers for school lunch.

I substituted chicken breast as kids don't like legs and there were no thighs left. It took a bit longer to make but much of that was oven time. Was concerned as kids say they don't like sweet potato but I love sweet potato so I persisted. Subbed full fat Greek yoghurt for fat free Grekk yoghurt for personal preference.

Everyone loved it!! And lots leftover for my lunch today and tomorrow.
9/10 result! Will make again with chicken thighs.

  1. Tonight we will have Vegetable curry - it uses a jar sauce which I usually never buy so I'm a bit wary - will report back!

I saw this the other week and have saved the recipes to try one week. Glad to hear the first two have been good, look forward to hearing how you get on with the others!

Tesco do this too, in the Teaco magazine.

I have the Lidl app and I flicked past those recipes in the online magazine. I might now give them go. I like the idea of the precooked salmon actually as I also hate cooking fresh fish. When I make my fish pie I used frozen fish and prawns.

The vegetable curry was a flop. I'm always wary of jar sauces & that's been reinforced by this one. Also the frozen beans were not great in the curry. And it needed a lot more spice.

On the bright side, the DC are now open to the idea of veggie curry so I will make my own version in the future.

The rest of the week got very busy so I haven't tried the other 2 yet.

The only recent curry sauces are Pataks.

Decent

I think the pastes are ok, not so much the sauces, however I really rate Mae Ploy thai pastes.
