Just stick it in the slow cooker recipes

Does anyone have any good recipes for meals I can just throw in the slow cooker, without browning, meat, veg etc? I have a slow cooker cook book but the recipes really aren't especially convenient tbh. May as well just cook it in a pan by the time I've used a clean pan to brown it in.

Yes, I am an extremely lazy and reluctant chef Grin.

I have Chicken thighs, that I took the skin off, in the bottom of the dish,
I added Tesco Casserole packs, £1,50 each, but 3 for 2,
Normally they do £1 bags in the freezer.
Then I mixed 2 Casserole sauce mixs, with cold water , in a jug, Topped it off with more water.
Bunged the lid on, and it cooks on high all day.
30 mins before you eat, put dumpling mix in a cup, add water mix with a knife, cut up and place on top, lid back on,

Eat,,,

Just change the meat and the sauce. Somerset Pork mix is great if you can find it.

I never bother browning meat, or frying veg etc for slow cooker. Just bung meat, veg seasoning/herbs/stock/wine etc straight in. The secret is not to put too much liquid in - you need much less than you would for a normal casserole. I add a bit of cornflour towards the end if it needs thickening.

I get a jar of Chicken Tonight sauce. The Spanish chicken one is lovely. Just dice the chicken and a red pepper, add some chorizo - either slices or the mini sausages and cook on low for 4-5 hours.

Agree the Somerset pork mix is lovely. With creamy mash. I'm doing this recipe tomorrow. Without Quark though. I'll probably use some creme fraiche instead.

I do most recipes with a “bung it all in and hope for the best” approach. One pot meals like curry, chilli, bolognese, risotto, chutney, rice pudding etc

Amazing! Thanks for all of these. Will be doing an online shop over the weekend, so will add ingredients for some of these.

Google the website supergoldenbakes. Great ideas under the slow cooker section

I never brown the meat OP, I literally dump everything in and run Grin

I use slow cooker bowl (it’s metal) on the hob on low heat for browning meat then throw everything in and cook as normal.

That is a good idea! I am not sure what mine is made of, but it appears to be ceramic.

Also, I'm so, very lazy with cooking at the moment, that dump and run is about my level!

My mums is metal and she can do the browsing on the job but you can't do it with the ceramic! Wish I knew this before I bought ours.

Gammon. Just throw in and top up with water!

I tested Home Pride slow cooker cook in sauce sachets last year and I still use them as a shortcut. The ingredients are what I'd use if I was cooking from scratch but it makes it dead quick to put a slow cooked meal on without the faff of browning. All flavours are lovely.

Quick update to say the cider pork recipe I posted was gorgeous. I used leeks instead of onion and lighter creme fraiche. Delicious.

I got the carrot baubles from Iceland instead of Chantennay ones. So much easier to throw them in the slow cooker than peeling, slicing & dicing.

I am doing a chuck it in the slow cooker version of chicken curry today. Will let you know how it goes!

It's chicken thighs (boneless, skinless), a tin of tomatoes, tin of chickpeas, crushed garlic, grated ginger root, curry paste, an onion and a pepper, with some salt as well. I'll put a small pot of plain yoghurt in at the end.

That's a great tip re carrots! Sometimes I can't be arsed to chop carrots.
