Think I might make it tonight but normally I just throw mince, mushrooms, tomato etc in then use a sauce from a jar.. wouldn't mind a great recipe if anyone if prepared to share

I soften chopped onion and garlic, then add mince, brown it, then bung in a tin of tomatoes, a squeeze of tomato puree then lower heat and add mushrooms, basil, oregano, pepper then simmer for a bit. Not sure how 'good' a recipe it is, but works for us, DH loves it!

Do you make a sauce or use a jar?

Thanks btw.. I mean I use a jar for the white sause Bachemal(?) but I once made it from scratch like a cheese saud (ages ago)

I tend to just bung in some mixed italian herbs

My boss reckons Delia Smith's recipe is fool-proof (he always cooks it for his visitors)

flowerybeanbag · 05/12/2007 12:10

I tend to use a jar for the white sauce tbh..

flowerybeanbag · 05/12/2007 12:12

Good grief, just looked at that Delia recipe - beef, pork, chicken livers and pancetta!

mishymoo · 05/12/2007 12:15

oops - maybe that isn't the recipe he uses ! I didn't read it properly. I think he uses one out of a book of hers!

Grate carrots into your meat sauce, gets extra veg down you and stops it tasting too tomatoey or meaty.
Also don't forget to drain the mince once cooked.

Anna8888 · 05/12/2007 14:59

VictorianSqualor - better still, cook your mincemeat sauce for 3 hours on a very slow heat until all the water has evaporated and you have a very rich sauce

A friend of mine adds whole cherry tomatoes to the bolognese sauce. Awesome, and will definitely do that next time I make one.
