Chia seeds raw

I have been using chia seeds in smoothies for a while, but I've just read that you should really soak them before adding them to a smoothie as they expand and cause blockages.

Am I right in thinking that I've probably been doing okay with them since when mixed in a smoothie they tend to spread apart. So even if they did swell, they're unlikely going to be clumped together?

I've gave a smoothie with some in to my son today and now I'm part freaking incase they're currently swelled inside and causing a blockage.

All will be fine, right?

I’ve never presoaked and never had a problem. The only danger I’d heard is that if you swallowed a quantity of them dry, they might stick in your gullet and expand there - though I can’t imagine anyone wanting to down a shot of dry chia seeds anyway!

The downside with having them unsoaked is that as they pass through your digestive system the suck out water and take it out with your poo.

So the other reason to soak is so they don't do that and leave all the water where it should be for healthy bodies! I guesss it's hard enough to drink enough water so taking a load out with unsoaked chia seeds makes it even more difficult!

Thank god I'm not the only one who doesn't soak them first and has lived to tell the tale! 😁

That is a good point about them soaking the water up when inside of you.

I think I will pre soak them first from now on.
