Chicken breasts not quite defrosted

I took a large pack of chicken breasts out of the freezer yesterday morning. I put them in the fridge a few hours after taking out.

I've just gone to get some from the pack and they haven't quite defrosted properly! I wanted to dice them to make a curry in the slow cooker. I've left a few out to hopefully thaw at room temp.

Are they ok to dice up and use as they are? I was going to brown them off before putting in the slow cooker for a few hours.

Yes

Chicken chops up really well when it's only partially defrosted. I do it all the time.

Yep, especially if you’re doing a longer cooking time anyway. It’ll be fine.

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2021 12:55

Yes, perfectly OK.

OverByYer · 14/09/2021 12:57

Yes I do this all the time.

Yes, much easier to chop.

If you've vegetables to chop too, do the chicken first, and by the time you've done they veg, the chicken will probably be thawed, as it'll defrost faster in smaller pieces.

I put mine in water.

idontlikealdi · 14/09/2021 13:01

Yes totally fine

The important thing is that they reach a safe temperature during cooking (79 degrees Celsius according to my meat thermometer) so it’s not a problem that they are slightly frozen now.

Thankyou all. I've just diced it up and it's partly icy but not frozen. I'm going to brown it off now and then slow cook it until later this afternoon. Slow cooker korma is 😋
