What's your favourite recipes you do on a buffet?

What's your favourite food to eat on a buffet?

Having a small gathering, I don't want to spend the day in the kitchen but want it to be nice.

What do you love to have?

Thanks!

I love the Itsu frozen gyoza and bao buns you buy in the supermarket. If we have friends over for football or something on TV I usually do an Asian buffet with things like that and then spring rolls and homemade sushi

Puff pastry tarts www.jusrol.co.uk/pastry-recipes/tuna-melt-pizza or this version recipes.sainsburys.co.uk/recipes/puff-pastry-pesto-tart
Tomato and onion couscous www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-tomato-onion-couscous/060892-30786-30787 with added cucumber and feta
Slices of baguette and pate

Either a fig, gorgonzola and prosciutto flat bread.
Which looks fancy but is actually really simple. Make (or buy!) a pizza dough and roll out into a rectangle (not too thick). Top with a thin layer of caramelised onion chutney, sliced fresh figs, crumbled Gorgonzola and torn prosciutto. Bake in oven. Once baked scatter over some rocket and serve.

Or mini chicken tikka skewers with mango chutney and raita for dipping.

Feta & pesto peppers.

Halve peppers lengthways. Blanch in boiling water until knife pierces them easily (2-5 minutes depending on how ripe your peppers are.)

Arrange in baking tray. Spoonful of pesto, half a cherry tomato & an olive/slice of jalapeño, chunk of feta or mozzarella.

Oven bake until everything is melted & sizzling, but allow to cool slightly before serving.

A spoonful of cooked rice before the pesto etc makes them more substantial & less drippy, but if you don't add rice you can chop up any leftovers & stir them through pasta for lunch next day.

I make a very simple spinach and feta pie: bought puff pastry rolled out to a large rectangle; large bag of chopped frozen spinach gently defrosted and mixed with a packet of crumbled feta, add black pepper. Spread over one side of the pastry sheet, fold the other side over, seal, brush with beaten egg, cut lots of slits all over, bake in a moderately hot oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

It's very tasty, and good for a party, cut into small squares.

Homemade sausage rolls are always a hit here.
I've also bought a pack of vol au vent cases and filled them with garlic mushrooms before baking. Those are yummy.
I'm also a massive lover of the 70s classic - cheese and pineapple on cocktail sticks. I know it's terribly unfashionable but with really good cheese (and I mean really good) and good pineapple, it's absolutely divine.

I am all for an easy life and want to enjoy the gathering without too much faff in the kitchen. So I buy in everything. Mezze, nice bread, dips, quiche, cocktails sausages, chicken legs/wings, salads and so on.

Nicely presented and can look very appetising. No one will care whether you made it yourself or not, provided there is plenty of it!

Enjoy.

It's true..as long as you buy decent stuff no one will care if it's home made. I had a lovely aunty who had a party and made home made mayonnaise for the potato salad...god love her. A complete waste of time imo

Love a buffet! Quiches, breads, cheeses, pate's cold meats, sausage rolls, chicken, big roast gammon to slice, green salad, potato salad, pasta salad, pizza slices, hot new potatoes with melted butter, nachos/crudettes and dips. Mmm want a buffet now!
