Decaf coffee/tea recommendations please!

I had a bit of an issue with my blood pressure last week - not long lasting, anxiety based - which has made me reconsider a few things. I do love coffee and drink too much, usually filter/cafetiere at home and work (school). I drink it black. Have yet to find a decaf I like because they taste funny - currently using Lavazza as it got good reviews after my initial first two "proper" cups. It's not hitting the spot.

Same with tea - currently drinking decaf Yorkshire tea and Twinings decaf Earl Grey. Not impressed!

Any recommendations for good decaf tea, ground coffee or "real" tasting instant? Not sure I'll get through the term to Christmas without a decent hot drink at break!

Thank you!

I have got one of those Nespresso machines that make black coffee with a head so no need for milk and the decaf is great. Also mist coffee shops decaf coffee is good.

Decaf tea is awful though.

Clipper decaf tea is lovely. But you do need to
leave the tea bag in for a good while.

Coffee, the key is in a gradual shift. So mix the decaf into your usual, in ever increasing quantities, until you don't bother with your usual any more.

The instant/ground hybrid stuff from Aldi is really good, for an instant decaf.

I get morrisons, or Lidl/Aldi ground decaf. It's cheap enough you can make it quite strong. Harrogate, by contrast, is weak and too expensive to make double strength.

Try a stove top espresso machine, they make great coffee.

Thanks all - some good ones to try. Really not a fan of Taylor's anyway - I always prefer the supermarket own brands. I'll make up a mix of caf/decaf for work each week and gradually change the proportions - great idea! And I'll give Lipton's a go next.

I find decaf tea you need more bags as they’re not as strong. I have a large mug and use 2 Yorkshire tea decaf bags, which having tried a lot of decaf tea, is the best for my taste.

I drink Rooibos tea instead of decaff black tea. I really like it, although I do admit my taste buds are fairly inferior. Picky DH likes it too though!

WombatChocolate · 04/09/2021 13:20

Best de cafe tea is Waitrose Essentials. Just tastes like normal, good quality big standard tea. Lovely. Have abandoned the Yorkshire version (tasted tinny to me) and also PG, Typhoo, Tetley (worst of lot) and other supermarket own brands.

I agree - having tried a load when I was pregnant, this one is definitely the best.
AnnaSW1 · 04/09/2021 14:20

The only two I liked were Starbucks decaf and gold blend for instant decaf.

campion · 04/09/2021 14:32

I drink M&S Single Origin Colombian Ground Decaff (strength no 3). I like it v much and, more importantly, my ultra coffee fussy DH likes it too. He drinks it with me in solidarity!

I also recommend Clipper Earl Grey tea though I don't bother with decaff there as I drink it very weak anyway.

The jury's still out on instant coffee so I've stopped buying it as I only drink coffee once a day on average (migraine related reasons).

romany4 · 05/09/2021 21:35

I love Sainsbury's de-caf tea and DH loves their de-caf coffee

ACatCalledPuss · 06/09/2021 15:08

I've recently had to change to decaf for similar reasons. My favourite tea is Thompsons and for coffee the best I have tried is M&S, both the instant and the decaff whole beans.

ACatCalledPuss · 06/09/2021 15:10

BTW when out and about, I usually order a flat white and haven't really noticed any difference between the caffeinated and decaff versions...

Pucarbuile · 06/09/2021 15:14

Bewleys decaf tea is lovely

SpamIAm · 07/09/2021 19:47

I use the Lidl decaf (blue packet usually mixed in with the red house blend ones). Nice enough, although admittedly it's been a while since I had the real stuff.

I don't drink black tea (I'm a roobois person) but DH's fave decaf is PG tips.

Mumwithbaggage · 11/09/2021 08:03

Two people recommending M and S coffee so that will be my next try! The home made half caf is going well though and I've stopped waking up with a caffeine headache (was never bad but I needed that first cup) so that's all good.

Decaf tea is my specialist area… have tried lots, although I should caveat this by saying I don’t drink strong tea anyway. These are my favourite 3.

Birchall great rift decaff
M&S decaf Earl grey
Dragonfly rooiboss Earl grey

And for coffee, I found the Waitrose Colombian decaff is nice plus the Union house roast decaff.

I went caffeine free about 7-8 years ago and once you get through the first two weeks (when I literally just yawned the whole time - I was like a cartoon) it’s been great. I think I’m healthier overall because when I’m tired it’s not asked by caffeine - so I don’t push myself too hard.

Marmite27 · 11/09/2021 09:25

I used to drink Yorkshire decaf, but switched to Aldi during the fists lick down. It’s much cheaper at 75p for 80 so no big deal if you don’t like it.

I have dowe Egberts decaf coffee.

actiongirl1978 · 11/09/2021 09:44

I do Yorkshire decaf tea and Pact coffee by post.
I usually drink with milk but it's very nice black too.
We have a gaggia classic espresso machine which gives the 'crema' on top of the coffee.

actiongirl1978 · 11/09/2021 09:44

Pact decaf that is.

furstivetreats · 13/09/2021 09:30

Another vote for clipper decaf tea here.

Shallwegoforawalk · 13/09/2021 10:18

Best instant decaf I've found is Douwe Egbert.

Best ground decaf that isn't silly money £££ is M&S.

FeedingFrenzy5 · 16/09/2021 19:03

Curve ball here but I recently bought a jar of chicory coffee on a whim and I love it! It tastes like instant coffee but a bit more malty.

Concestor · 16/09/2021 22:16

I love Yorkshire decaff tea. It makes a good strong cuppa.
I use Dowue Egberts for coffee

RoseMartha · 16/09/2021 22:19

My decaff favourites are

Lavazza coffee

Yorkshire tea
