Does anyone have any tips for homemade takeaway meals? I'm trying to get the whole family healthier and save money, and this is a sticking point, as we like our takeaways!

I'm thinking like a Asda style takeaway pizza instead of dominos etc

"The takeaway secret" by Kenny McGovern - covers several cuisines.

SamprasTheRabbit · 31/08/2021 10:48

No supermarket pizza will live up to dominoes etc. We find making our own is much nicer. BBC good food recipe - freezes really well too.

The Spice Tailor kits are excellent www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/spice-tailor-fiery-goan-curry-sauce-300g

The diet cola chicken recipe from Pinch of Nom, couldn't believe how tasty it was! Definitely tasted like it had come from a Chinese takeaway

PurpleDaisies · 31/08/2021 15:19

Fake Nando’s style is really easy if you buy peri peri rub.

SunIsBehindGreySky · 02/09/2021 10:46

The Asda pizza had two medium pizzas,a Cola and cinema ticket, if there are four of you, you get two tickets, after two meals you all get to visit the cinema, or have four films at home.

Have a look at the skinnykitchensecrets website, some really great fakeaway homemade meals.

Also look up the Netmums doner kebab fakeaway - thats so easy and a firm favourite here.

Tiddlywinks10 · 02/09/2021 11:12

Look at the legend series

‘How to be a curry legend’
‘How to be a taco legend’

We like northern dough company bases (come frozen) and make our own

Make our own kfc type burgers using sfc baked in the oven. I often have a burger in a bowl rather than in bread too :)

coodawoodashooda · 02/09/2021 11:14

I ordered kfc spice from amazon a while back.

SoupDragon · 02/09/2021 11:18

Pinch of Nom has a great fake Zinger Chicken "recipe". I put it in inverted commas because it's basically covering chicken breast/thighs with crushed chilli Doritos 😂

ZombeaArthur · 02/09/2021 11:20

I really like the Pinch of Nom salt and pepper chicken, which is easily adapted for salt and pepper vegetables/ chips/ etc. So easy to make.

whiteonesugar · 02/09/2021 11:20

Second diet cola chicken its really lovely!

I have made fakeaway doner kebab its very nice, also any meat marinated and grilled with salad and pitta is a kebab!

Southern fried chicken mini fillets, oven chips and some beans can be a KFC fakeaway

We get the pizza express at home pizzas when on offer - dough balls essential

Simply cook do spice kits for loads of meals, we love the makhani curry, massman and rendang. Or you can find recipes online for all sorts of curries. Or get the supermarket takeaway box things!

The only one you cant fake is fish and chips in my opinion!

TheLadyGrayson · 02/09/2021 11:21

Pinch of nom bhajis are good, and Nando’s marinade is really low in calories 😊

YouJustDoYou · 02/09/2021 11:23

I swear by Ziangs food videos on YouTube- they're a mum and son duo who have run Chinese takeaways for decades and share all the inside recipes and knowledge in how to make fakeaways at home. Their crispy beef is to DIE for!

SunIsBehindGreySky · 02/09/2021 17:27

I like the Ziangs Mum, they like MSG.

YouJustDoYou · 02/09/2021 19:17

I like the Ziangs Mum, they like MSG
It makes the dish sooo scrummy. They also show a lot of links to prove msg3has no negative effects.

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 02/09/2021 22:30

Second vote for punch of nom salt and pepper chicken nuggets

We do pizzas with ready made dough, and then just add whatever toppings we like

Slimming world fake away book is brilliant - delicious curries abs Chinese food with a fraction of the calories

Hadenoughcrap2 · 02/09/2021 22:36

This is really nice and can be adapted for different tastes by using different spices tasty.co/recipe/chicken-gyros

Hadenoughcrap2 · 02/09/2021 22:41

This is another good one. I don't cook the beef in the sauce I just add it once at the table as I like the beef to stay really crispy pinchofnom.com/recipes/crispy-chilli-beef/

MMAMPWGHAP · 02/09/2021 22:46

This Sabrina Ghayour recipe for an oven baked sort of lamb kebab is really good. It’s also great to prepare in the morning and only takes 20 mins to cook. We have it with flatbreads and salad, and perhaps humous, greek yoghurt or a red pepper dip.

MMAMPWGHAP · 02/09/2021 22:48

PS I also think that recipe is an excellent one for students.

PurbeckStone · 02/09/2021 22:55

Check out thewoksoflife.com. Fantastic recipes by an American-Chinese family who ran a take-away restaurant for many years.

JingsMahBucket · 03/09/2021 08:58

I also highly recommend the Woks of Life along with Damn Delicious damndelicious.net/
