My child loves pesto sauce on pasta snd I want to send her to school with some next week. I have tried making her nut-free recipes as she doesn't like mine. So are there any ready made I can buy please?

Jamie Oliver has a kale and spinach pesto which is nut free, my children love it

Make it without nuts? Rocket & spinach pesto with garlic, cheese?

stevalnamechanger · 31/08/2021 00:12

Just make it .. very simple

Oil basil garlic Parmesan

stevalnamechanger · 31/08/2021 00:12

Sorry I don't understand how she doesn't like your homemade one .. have you tried different recipes ?? 🤣

Clymene · 31/08/2021 00:13

Pine nuts aren't nuts.

There are definitely some in the supermarket as I buy them for ds. I think, from the top of my head, Tesco finest one and Sainsbury lemon one. But check the ingredients obviously.

Warmduscher · 31/08/2021 00:14

It’s she allergic to nuts? If not, why do you need to make it without nuts?

GoodMorrowFairMaiden · 31/08/2021 00:15

Pine nuts are seeds and not nuts, I think so I don’t exclude those.

CarrotCakeMuffins · 31/08/2021 00:22

Aldi sell one with pine nuts only (not nuts). Some pesto also contain cashew nuts. Their red one definitely ok. Can't promise about the green one.

@Clymene

Pine nuts aren't nuts.
Exactly. They’re seeds, like sunflower seeds.
Quitelikeacatslife · 31/08/2021 00:55

My husband can't have nuts but pine nuts are seeds.
Some pre made pesto uses cashew nuts but some don't.
I've just bought some from asda that doesn't have nuts in, just normal range.

Downtherefordancing · 01/09/2021 07:53

Not sure why everyone is banging on that pine nuts aren't nuts.

No they aren't ... but cashew nuts are and that is what most manufacturers now use.

I had this issue op as my DD is allergic to nuts but now we have found a good one. Tesco do a small fresh tub of pesto - find it in the chiller where the fresh pasta etc is. Completely nut free 😊

SheWoreYellow · 01/09/2021 07:56

I googled and found one on Amazon, Good Deli is the brand.

Spainintherain · 02/09/2021 14:17

Thank you for the two nut free recommendations! Thank you x million!

I have a nut allergy and just get one from Asda, can’t remember the brand.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 02/09/2021 14:21

@Clymene

Pine nuts aren't nuts.
And yet I am allergic to nuts and have reacted to pine nuts in the past, so maybe it’s a cross contamination thing.
Jennasis616 · 16/09/2023 00:36

Pine nuts are tree nuts!

Many schools don't allow any products containing nuts onsite because of allergies among other students.

Bananaandmarmite · 20/09/2023 12:26

dd and I both have nut allergy. There’s a genevose one in sainsburys and that is cashew nut free.
asda also do they’re extra special one as cashew nut free.

most fresh pesto is nut free too.

I get frustrated at restaurants calling pine nuts, nuts. The other day they wouldn’t serve me something as it had pine nuts in.

THEYRE SEEDs!!!!!!!!
