Thanks Motherhurdicure. Bought from Lidl last year (on basis that Germans know their geese) but it was really disappointing. Got one via the fishmonger previous years, fab but v. expensive. Will go in there to order tomorrow if I can't find any other sources.

Google Donald Russell

lilolilbethlehem · 02/12/2007 15:49

Thanks Bree- but £54 not including delivery is more than I wanted to spend on a goose (plus they are out of stock)

Doubt you will find one cheaper.

I'm pretty sure MIL's goose last year was from

Charcuterie - Butcher

3 Moorside Rd
Heaton Moor
Stockport
Cheshire
SK44DT

M&S does a ready stuffed goose for £59. Our local farm shop sells geese at £50-£72 (5kg - 7kg) but is not in your area.

Axons in Didsbury? We ordered very late last year (and then I ended up in over Christmas anyway) but they are a good butcher. Can't remember the price. Great ham too from there.

There's a place called Holly Tree Farm just over J19 on the M6 - on the Northwich road. We got our turkey from their when we lived in Ringway and I'm sure they do goose as well but I've no idea about price.

biglips · 03/12/2007 08:08

from your local butchers as thats where we get ours

lilolilbethlehem · 03/12/2007 09:47

thanks all. Will check out with our fishmonger later, seems that it was a good price after all. Motherhurdicure, don't panic, Lidls stuff usually ace. Am sure it'll be fine (and you can't beat Lidl's Christmas pudding, Stollen and Panettonne)

Wild at Heart in Whalley Range.

do you have a farm shop near to you? not tried and tested by me - obviously! But i recall my local farm shop selling goose one year.

How far south are you?

ConnorTraceptive · 03/12/2007 20:34

look on www.geese.cc for local stockist/farmers

ConnorTraceptive · 03/12/2007 20:35

You should be looking at £3.75 per/pound from what i've seen so far.
