Birthday cake has collapsed in the middle. Rescue tips anyone?

I have just baked a medium-sized chocolate cake for DS's (age 8 birthday). It has sunk quite badly. I am not making another. Please, has anyone any decorating tips to 'disguise' a sunken middle.

I was going to decorate it with chocolate buttercream and Smarties, so have those ingredients.

TIA

I don't think there is a lot you can do to disguise a sunken cake tbh. unless you just put extra icing in the middle.

Have you got enough smarties to fill the sunken bit. You'll be very popular if you have. That's the best I can suggest!

Ok,

Turn it over and use the base as the top!

or

slice off the raised portion of the cake and decorate it as normal.

Or

Turn it into a chocolate pond? Use 2 different colours of icing maybe white choc and milk choc. Don't disguise it emphasie it. Make the raised section into a pond banks and use the smarties as toad stools. fill the sunken bit with white icing and stick a childs frog in it as a pond.

The kids wont care once its been cut!

Turn it upside down and decorate it. No-one'll know!

Thanks Finger and weebles. Will put extra icing in the middle, then just pour lots of smarties in it instead of the smartie figure 8 I'd planned to do.

I did turn it over and it sank the other way too We've got an Aga and I've been finding cakes difficult to get right for some reason.

I like the pond idea Stary. Thanks.

Oh If its an aga then you have my sympathy.

They are notorious for not coming upto temp. Which is a real pain in the bum for cakes.

Try thing old trick. Beofr you put a cake in the oven throw w very small amount of flour into the aga if it tunrs brown the oven is at the right temp. If not wait for it to heat up.

Or advoid anything that has to rise!

The kids will love it I am sure the minute you cut it they will love it its chocolate after all! Have a good time.
