Quick food safety Q - Beef mince 2 days out of date but smells okay

Is it safe to eat as long as I cook it through properly? It's going in a lasagne so it's getting fried then cooked in an oven for half an hour, so pretty thoroughly.

Am I being sensible, or foolhardy?

I'm going to stick my neck out and say, if it smells OK, go for it. I take it its been in the fridge?

It's been in the fridge - was only bought on Tuesday. I just didn't get around to using it until now!

Sod it... it's getting cooked well, surely any bugs would be well killed off by then. It just might be a bit tasteless.

I'll let you know if we all come down with food poisoning

Sell by dates are are always on the cautious side. If it smells ok and you are cooking it well I'm sure it will be fine - go for it!

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 30/11/2007 17:05
