Frozen Chilli

If I freeze a chilli ready to take on holiday, will it still be good if it's been put frozen in a cool box for 36 hours then a fridge for 24 hours

Wouldn’t it be easier to just cook a chilli when you get there? I’d worry about any meat in what could’ve a warm car for over 3 days!

If it was freshly cooked when frozen it will be fine. Imagine if, instead of freezing it you had popped it in the fridge. I would think it would be safe to re-heat for at least 3 or 4 days, probably longer.

@FizziWater thank you for your reassuring post

@TuesdayRuby No. I'm on holiday. Also I want to flexibility of maybe ordering a takeaway first night if my finances work out a bit better, but not being able to arrive/unpack at the accommodation until 5pm earliest means that either cooking or takeaway could go very wrong very quickly. And I'm a single parent to one with SEN and one who dislocates stuff.

Yes I agree with this. Freeze it as soon as you cook it and you'll be fine.

If you are not confident in it, could you use beans or veggie mince? They would be much more forgiving unrefrigerated than meat.

I kinda happy with it, (I used to do 4 night camping trips with just a cool box prior to children) but I wanted to make sure my confidence wasnt completely misguided overconfidence!!.

Veggie chilli is ok for home but the plan is for a really meaty one as a treat! I realised I could save my cooking one night if I bought it from home. My dream plan of much eating out and takeaways is definitely not happening after a unexpected expense completely wiped the holiday fund!! I want to make my life as easy as possible whilst we're there. So lots of supermarket lasagna and fresh pastas for the rest of the holiday. Grin
