Frozen fish pie mix

May sound like a silly question but...

I got a frozen fish pie mix from the supermarket - so it's just chunks of salmon, cod, smoked haddock etc

Do I defrost it then add it to a home made sauce cold, or actually cook it and add it to the sauce hot, before covering in mash and putting in the oven?

Or do I leave it frozen- add to a sauce, cover with mash and oven cook so it cooks from frozen?!

Also - as it was frozen fish in the first place, am I able to make this pie and then re-freeze? Not sure how good it is to re-freeze something after its already been frozen but was hoping to batch cook some meals...

Ugh should I just have bought fresh fish instead?!

(Ps. I'm usually an 'okay' cook but new to fish pie and definitely new to a frozen mix...)

I would just add it to the sauce cold as it will soon cook in the sauce. I then top with mash and bake. If I am intending to freeze it before baking then I would make sure the fish is cooked as it can then be refrozen.

I defrost, stir into hot sauce and bake.

Although my favourite use for it is fish curry. Tin of coconut milk heated with curry paste, add fish and simmer for 10 min. Done.

I defrost, then poach gently in milk until not quite done.
I then use the milk to make the white sauce.

Cooking from frozen is fine - think of all the fish fingers that go from freezer to oven.

But I'd assemble the pie with all the parts cold (or, with your fish, frozen).

I'd say it's ok to freeze the leftovers because the fish will have been cooked.
