If you have one, would you recommend it? I can't tell from the website how long the gas cannisters last. I'm probably not after flavours, just sparkling water. Any reviews gratefully received.

We have one that we only use for sparkling water. I don't think it works out any cheaper than buying sparkling water, but saves on plastic and means you have always got it on hand. I use the sparkle saver plan which works out £10 per canister (lasts 2-3 weeks per canister for our family of 4).

fatsatsuma · 31/07/2021 10:58

Thank you, that's helpful. I think I guessed that it wouldn't save money but as you say saves on plastic and means fizzy water is always on hand Smile

We have one and it's just me using it but I'll happily drink 1-2 litres of fizzy water a day. A cannister lasts me less than a week and I get refills from sainsbury. Sodastream customer service is absolutely non existent so I bought via amazon I'm the first place.

fatsatsuma · 31/07/2021 16:02

Thanks didireallysay. I didn't know you could get the refills from sainsburys

@fatsatsuma Argos too. I don't think it's any more expensive that doing it with sodastream (if they offered a bottle pickup service that would be convenient but as you have to leave the house to send the bottle back I don't find it any more of a hassle to go to sainsbury. I did have a bottle from sodastream but it took 2 months and turned up after I'd cancelled it...)

TabbyStar · 31/07/2021 18:41

That's a blast from the past, they were so popular in the 80s, though we didn't have one lots of my friends did. I'm guessing they're making a comeback!

MissConductUS · 31/07/2021 20:46

I love ours.

Disneycharacter · 31/07/2021 20:59

Love it because I can add nice natural flavours to the sparkling water. Got mocked relentlessly here a few years back as they were seen as old fashioned.

Which machine do you have @didireallysaythat that means you're using a cannister in a week?!

We have the Crystal one, and we must go through at least 3 litres of water a day, but a cannister lasts for much, much longer than that.

HungryHippo11 · 03/08/2021 23:14

We have one which has been going for about 10 years and we use it all the time. Probably a bottle every other day, maybe more often in the Summer. I would say a cannister lasts about a month.

I use sodastream own refill service as its free delivery and you get the refund when you return your empties.

As others have said it doesn't work out cheaper but certainly better in terms of plastic and convenience.

HungryHippo11 · 03/08/2021 23:15

Actually the cannister probably last more than a month... maybe 2. I don't really time is as its infrequent.

didireallysaythat · 03/08/2021 23:15

@BIWI blimey corrective text made my message crazy!

A cannister lasts me more than a month.

Less than a week? Hmm I'd be full of gas....

I have the crystal one and have two bottles for the morning of calls....

Bobbybobbins · 03/08/2021 23:17

We have one and enjoy it. Don't use it as much in the winter but loads in the summer.

BIWI · 03/08/2021 23:22

I did wonder @didireallysaythat Grin

According to Sodastream:

each cylinder should make around 60 litres of sparkling water

We have 6 bottles for our Crystal, so there's always plenty in the fridge.

Soontobe60 · 03/08/2021 23:30

I bought one last year much to my DHs disgust, but she drinks sparkling water like it’s going out of fashion I though that it would be worth it. We go through two Litre bottles a day on average. I got some mixers with it initially, but I don’t really rate them - I have mine with posh cordial! The biggest factor is not going through 7-8 plastic bottles every week, that adds up to over 400 single use plastic bottles every year!
I have a refills deal - we get 4 canisters every few weeks, and I think we get a total of 16 in a year? I know when I calculated it it worked out much cheaper than buying single refills from Sainsbury’s / Argos or wherever. I wouldn’t be without it now.

FeedingFrenzy5 · 04/08/2021 21:41

I also have one and love it. I'd say we get through a cannister in just under 2 months. I have just bought extra bottles that we can keep in the fridge and carbonate as needed. The screw top lids are good so you can also carbonate a full bottle and then come back to it later.

fatsatsuma · 10/08/2021 09:46

Thanks everyone - am seriously tempted. I really hate all the single use plastic bottles we are getting through
