Onions in the slow cooker?

We are having a bbq tomorrow and I was wondering if I could cook onions in the slow cooker and if would they would caramelise? As you know the cook down to almost nothing so I was hoping I could fill the slow cooker and use leave it to cook through the day. Any suggestions please?

I do it all the time and freeze in batches

Yes, definitely. I have never thought about doing it like this before. Thanks for the tip!

Brillohair - how long do they take and do you add anything and/ or water?

Wee bit of oil to coat the bottom to stop sticking, that's all.

Definitely. They're sooooooo much nicer. A little oil or a small amount of veg stock and you're good to go.

Thanks but high or low, 4 hours or until done? Regular or red onions? Sorry for all the questions but if this works.....our bbqs will never be the same!

I may be disproportionately excited about this thread Grin

I use normal onions and do them on high.
I give them a stir every so often.
