What's happened to Heinz beans?

I love baked beans and sausages on a jacket potato. I've usually have branston and have it once a week as a treat!

The sausages are meaty and the bean juice is thick and unctuous.

Anyway, this week Heinz beans and sausages was on offer so I stocked up. I had them today and was bitterly disappointed. The bean juice was watery and the sausages thin and plasticy.

Has anyone else noticed the quality of Heinz dropping? I'm sure they weren't like this the last time I had them.

I don't normally have beans with sausage but Heinz beans seem pretty expensive for what they are to me. Branstin are much better, in fact most supermarket brands are better than Heinz and certainly better value.

I think they’ve reduced the sugar which has made the sauce yuk. I add a good squirt of ketchup to the pan which improves things.

LadyCatStark · 20/07/2021 13:38

Heinz beans went watery a few years ago now, no idea why people still buy them.

sherrystrull · 20/07/2021 14:15

I definitely won't be again. I'm honestly shock by the horrific quality.

I never normally buy them but the other week that was all there was in Costco, so I got them, thinking they would be a bit nicer (I don't really eat them) but everyone has said they are crap, watery and tasteless. Branson get our vote.

TheAwfuITruth · 20/07/2021 14:20

Branston beans are bigger, softer and the sauce more rich and orangey

Heinz are small, hard, pale and watery

hiredandsqueak · 20/07/2021 14:32

I switched to Branston a few years ago and enjoy them much more. For beans and sausages though Morrisons own brand are about 40p for a big tin and still much nicer than Heinz.

StevieNix · 20/07/2021 14:44

I get branstons if I want the sausages, otherwise I like the Aldi’s own baked beans - £0.99 for 4 big tins I think

FawnDrench · 20/07/2021 19:22

Another vote for Aldi baked beans - a vast improvement on Heinz - such a lovely thick, tasty sauce at a fraction of the cost.

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/07/2021 19:33

Too much sugar, too much sauce and the sausages are poor quality. I switched to Branston's ages ago but my last tin had only 7 sausages instead of 8.

Bargebill19 · 20/07/2021 19:33

Aldi’s are lovely. And I say that as a life long Heinz fan. Just add a few sausage to it. If you cook a pack, you can have lovely snappy cold ones the next day with a salad. Again also cheapy sausages are fab.

Bargebill19 · 20/07/2021 19:34

Aldi !

OhRene · 20/07/2021 19:52

Yeah I have no idea what Heinz did but they destroyed their beans and sausages. 35 years I was loyal to Heinz and never even considered another brand. I just put up with them going downhill but still remained a customer. I was given Branstons by someone and that was me instantly dumping the overpriced Heinz.

M&S beans are great and much cheaper than Heinz!

Greenlittle · 20/07/2021 22:13

Waitrose has great baked beans too. I think it is their own brand organic range

sherrystrull · 20/07/2021 23:13

Thanks for the tips!

My DS (7) loves Aldi beans, I love Waitrose ones - beans on toast is a complicated affair in my household!

QueenAdreena · 20/07/2021 23:31

Sainsbury’s veggie sausages and beans are much better than Heinz.

OnTheBoardwalk · 20/07/2021 23:35

Heinz have been rank for years. Agree Branston is the bean of choice these days

MountainDweller · 20/07/2021 23:48

I live on the continent and usually Heinz are the only U.K. style baked beans available. Due to Covid and Brexit (I assume) our local supermarket had to resort to Back-Up Baked Beans so we tried Branson and Waitrose Essential. Both better than Heinz! I agree the sauce is too watery... DH is a staunch fan of Heinz and Set In His Ways so would never have tried them unless there ws no choice Grin
