Is this melon ok or off?!

I’m wondering what the white speckles are?! Is it going mouldy? It smells ok (I think, though not totally sure how it would smell if slightly off) and is not squishy on the outside, but I’ve never seen speckles like this in a melon before!

An overripe melon smells incredibly strong. The flesh goes pulpy and very soft and there is usually softening and dimpling of the skin. I can't tell if they are speckles or if you cut it with a serrated knife and tore the flesh a bit maybe. Either way, looks ok, I'd eat it 👍

I'd slice the speckled edge off. It looks a bit old and dried out, I think it's tired rather than off.

Did you wrap in cling film? If you don’t they dry out and look like that.

I took the photo right after cutting it open. It’s speckled all the way through, so I can’t cut off the speckled bit - if the speckled bit can’t be eaten I’ll have to throw the whole melon away.

I did use a serrated knife, but I always cut melons with that knife and they don’t usually look like that!
