Recipe calls for 1/2 teaspoon of almond essense, I haven't got any. Should I substitute vanilla essense, or just not add anything?

i would - i guess cherry and almond is a more "traditional" combination but vanilla should be ok

LedodgyDickinson · 24/11/2007 11:17

I assume it's meant to taste marzipanny (is that a word?) hence the almond. You could add vanilla I don't see it doing any harm.

It has ground almonds in the cake mixture, then flaked almonds sprinkled over the top, so I do thbink its going to be very almondy anyway (drool)

Def add the vanilla?
