BBQ how to reduce waste?

I'm wondering if you're having a bbq for a large group of people how do you plan the food? Would you say one baked potato per person, one corn on the cob per person with a few spare in case people turn up unexpected or have seconds or would you just cook a batch of everything and let people help themselves? Thanks?

I think for a large group batch cooking is the best way to go. With regards to number of potatoes etc I think it depends on what else you are serving. For example if serving things in buns, or have pasta salad fewer people would have potatoes than if that were the only carb.
I think one of the ways to reduce waste is not to have too many options. Then cook one load and have more in reserve if needed.

Get a 20 year old son who will eat all the leftovers for breakfast the next day! Wink
