My ds1 has just expressed an interest in it after having seen it on tv but mussels and clams are a big no no..

I don't have a recipe I'm afraid but I have eaten paella made with chicken and prawns if they would be acceptable to ds.

michaelad · 18/11/2007 16:58

Yes, prawns he can cope with..I'll just keep bumping

you can do more or less any paella recipe and just add prawns instead of molluscs. here's delia i can't eat prawns so i use squid instead.

slim22 · 19/11/2007 11:11

delia's recipe sounds good but would defo use double the amount of paprika and saffron and use stock not water to cook ( 2 pints with 1 cube chicken & 1 cube fish stock).

bonitaMia · 19/11/2007 14:08

hi, would he be interested in a meat paella?

iota · 19/11/2007 14:10

I agree with Mercy - chicken and prawns is the way to go. We make this and I lob all the prawns onto dh's plate.

michaelad · 19/11/2007 18:28

bonita, meat paella sounds good too.Do you have a particular recipe in mind?

There is a fab monkfish paella recipe in the first Moro book-sorry not at home so can't type it out for you

SenoraPostrophe · 19/11/2007 20:38

paella valenciana:

fry onions and garlic in olive oil.
fry chicken pieces (can be bits of leg with bone in, or chunks of breast fillets) and bits of chorizo (and whatever you do, don't call it "choritzo" ). add fat rice - pref spanish rice but risotto rice or even pudding rice will do. add however much the rice packet says of good chicken stock. 5 mins before the rice is cooked, and a good handful of cooked butter beans, and another of sliced runner beans. then add about a teaspoon of paprika and some saffron. when rice is done it's ready, obviously.

alternatively, add prawns and bits of any white fish instead of the butter beans.

SenoraPostrophe · 19/11/2007 20:39

oh, if you're doing the fish version also add some red pepper at the onion stage, or cut it into strips and plonk it on top as the spanish always seem to do for some reason.

michaelad, the recipe added by señorapostrophe is pretty much the way I do a meat paella. She beat me to it!

(althoug I wouldn't bother roasting the garlic and blending it)
