Got some brussel sprouts in our veg box this week, normally would have swapped with a friend for something nice! However my 4 year Ds said, no mamma you have to try it...

Think have to give it a go as our house rule is 'you dont have to eat it but try and if you dont like it, leave it'.So better be on best behaviour towards kids but does anybody has a nice recipe for them?

Oh they are lovely just boiled so long as you don't overcook them.

Marina · 15/11/2007 17:52

Do not laugh - cook them lightly then puree them with some butter and parmesan
It really is nice and non-sprout-like (from a fellow non-believer)

snooks · 15/11/2007 18:04

I remember reading somewhere about shredding them finely (like cabbage) and frying or posh sauteing them with some spices - just not sure which spices. I'd use my old faithful paprika or chilli or cayenne pepper perhaps....then use as a side vegetable or with chicken or something. Sorry bit vague.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 15/11/2007 18:10

they are lovely imo !

Bung 'em in with mashed potato and other mashed up left over veg and make a lovely bubble & squeak. Easy-peasy way to ensure the dds eat their veggies.

Adding maple syrup & lardons is nice.

Cooked and then fried with other veg & potatos & bacon to make bubble & squeak

PestoMonster · 17/11/2007 19:44

Pickie · 17/11/2007 19:55

uberalice · 17/11/2007 20:10

I made a brussel sprout soup once with coconut milk. Sounds gross, but it was lovely.

Pickie · 17/11/2007 20:12

and what do you lovely cooks do with raddichio? Never though a thread about brussel sprouts would get any reaction however all recipes sound nice!

Boil them until al dente and then toss them in some double cream with some bacon lardons

FrayedKnot · 17/11/2007 20:14

Sorry that was sprouts not radiccio

lizziemun · 17/11/2007 20:14

I just boil until just cooked. Do not over cook them.

DD1 3yrs 10mths said to m sister last week when she got my veg ' Look mummy we have brussels yummy' all excited my sister just looked at dd1 as if she was mad.

singersgirl · 17/11/2007 20:15

I use them chopped up finely in stir-fries (sprouts, not radicchio). They have a really nice nutty flavour then and are not overpowering.

Also a vote for bubble and squeak.
