Well they aren't that old, but they have old-fashioned tastes, so can't make anything too spicey (eg curry or chile con carne) and they will expect a proper spread ( can't do mezze type nibbles)

Any suggestions?

Soup all round I think
How about sausages and mash with onion gravy, goes down a bomb with my FIL bless him. Make sure the mash you make is of a good quality, nice and creamy.

I have my 75 yr old Mil round for dinner every week and she loves Chicken Tonight type sauces - (Honey and Mustard) and Ragu Lasagne (Red and white sauces in jars).
I get more thanks for those type of dinners than if I go to loads of effort - so why not buy 3 jars of chicken tonight and chicken breasts and have mini roast pots? Hardly any effort at all!
and apple crumble and cream - easy peasey!!
