Can I eat beans out of the tin without cooking them?

I usually make a bean salad using aduki beans - soak dried beans and boil them. I forgot to soak some but have a can of them - can I use these straight out of the tin? Or will it give everyone belly ache?

www.bbc.co.uk/food/aduki_beans

When bought canned, the beans are already cooked and only need draining and rinsing before heating.

Based on that I reckon you’d be fine. I make a salad with cannellini beans which just involves rinsing them then adding them to the salad.

you can use them straight out of the tin. Rinse them well.

It normally tells you on the can what to do. I would expect that you could use them straight out the can though as they're normally already cooked.

i think so, but dont shout if i have this wrong. i used to use chilli beans straight from the can (adding to rest of chilli meal and then warming) and there was never any instructions to boil for 20 mins. its to get rid of the toxins isnt it and i think that is done as part of canning process

... of course you can , ask any student.

Thecazelets · 04/05/2021 16:48

Yes. Food in tins is heated to very high temperatures as part of the canning process so is always safe to eat without reheating.

Beany belly ache? What's that? If they're in a can they're usually already cooked and ready to use.

Ok. But if you hear of an explosion in west London tonight, it’s all your fault.
