Hi, I have 2 tins of chick peas that have been in my cupboard for ages as never really knew what to make with them, I would like ideas for a simple vegetarian meal (dh is veggie) so I can use them up please!!

I have a dd 17 mths so something she could also eat would be good!

prepare 2 large aubergines, fry with olive oil , garlic and onion, throw it in a casserole, then add drained chick peas, two tins of chopped tomatos, and seasoning

stick in over, then sprinkle with cheese, serve with crusty breas

a dead easy meal I make is fry an onion witha little cumin, add chick peas and tinned tomatoes, cook till chick peas are soft (anything from 30 to 45 mins).

Or you could do a chick pea curry with curry paste, tomatoes and coconut milk

Whiz them up with some lemon juice, olive oil and garlic, plus if you have it some tahini paste although its hardly the thing you have lying around, for quick hummus.

Mmm I am liking Lulumamas suggestions

I got a lovely recipe on saturday from the bbc website. Its chick pea and salami stew, was really nice, especially with spicy salami.

I make chilli or curry with mine - either way saute some onions and garlic, add a tin of tomatoes, the chick peas (for chill I make half and half with kidney beans), then add a bit of stock, maybe chuck in some wine if you have any sitting around, then for spices just use curry powder (or cumin, turmeric, garam masala etc if you prefer) or chilli powder and simmer for about 30 mins until the sauce has thickened. Serve with sour cream and tortillas or cucumber raita and naan. Or with a jacket spud. A squeeze of lemon juice and/or fresh coriander on the finished article is also nice.

Forgot to say you can basically add any veggies you have lurking in the fridge such as peppers, mushrooms, courgettes etc.
