I got celeriac with my veg box this week. Do I store in fridge?

And can someone recommend some good recipes please? I've never cooked it. I'm inclined to try a gratin? Other recommendations?

Love it roasted in the oven in little chunks. Its so good, I don't know why it's not more popular. I only tried it because it was in our local veg box Blush.

It's a big part of low carb bootcamp so there are lots of recipes on this thread:

Anna Hedworth who runs the lovely restaurant www.cookhouse.org in Newcastle has a fab celeriac gratin in her book

Also good for soup with chorizo sprinkled on top..

If you're in need of a hearty rich meal - Ottolenghi celeriac with cafe de Paris sauce will sort you out!

Fry 0.5cm thick slices in butter. Serve as an accompaniment to other things in the same kind of way that you might use potato wedges or chips

store like you would potato.

we love celeriac schnitzel like this: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/268342/pan-fried-breaded-celery-root/

I can't believe no one mentioned remoulade! I thought that was pretty much the ONLY thing anyone did with celeriac....Smile

It's the most delicious substance in the world. Mmmmmm French deli food.

Brandnewnotepad · 24/04/2021 17:57

Also vote for remoulade. I make a cheats version with half Mayo half yogurt, spoonful of Dijon mustard, splash of lemon juice and seasoning. Just lush.

The4Seasons · 24/04/2021 18:00

I like it grated raw and mixed with mayonnaise, bit of seasoning. It's like coleslaw, but earthier.

Dauphinois works well, you can put a layer of garlic mushrooms and spinach in too.
Mash
Steaks with Indian spices on
Chips
Mash on top of pies etc

We roast it like potatoes, just in some oil with salt and pepper. We've also had it as a replacement for chips, sprinkled with paprika as well as salt and pepper and it's nice in a gratin too, with crispy bacon and breadcrumb topping.
