oh, speaking of chutney, that reminds me...how long does home made chutney keep?

DH made some lest night. He put the jars in the oven and all that jazz, but only one of them sealed properly (ie, the top popped down). I put it in the cupboard, and the other three bottles in the fridge...was that right? How many weeks do we have to get through 5 jars of chutney?

Bit of a novice chutney maker myself, but it's supposed to be better if you keep it for a month before eating anyway. I've had some for up to a year. I reckon it would go mouldy if it was off. Not an expert tho so will be watching with interest for other answers. I do give quite a few jars away tho so we don't end up with tons to use ourselves.

so do you keep it in the fridge or cupboard?

Sorry, first chance to check in since I last posted. I keep mine in cool, dark place until opened. Once opened, I keep it in the fridge. Would be happier if someone else would confirm this is ok, I'd hate you to lose your chutney cos of what I wrote, especially as I don't make it every year.

I made some jars of chutney about 4 years ago, but didn't use fancy popping down jars, just old jam jars. I opened the last one about 6 months ago and it was the best yet! Kept in dark cupboard

Forgot to say, i don't use popping down jars either. Reuse other jars and seal with wax discs. Agree CloudAtlas, it does taste better with age!

Hhhhm, we haven't used waz - just washed the jars, put them in the oven, then put the chutney in and put the lid on...so cupboard then?
